Eastland

The East Coast (Te Tairawhiti) covers an area of 15,500 square kilometres and stretches from just below Gisborne, around the East Cape to Opotiki and inland towards Lake Waikaremoana.

With an abundance of awe inspiring coastal scenery and so many opportunities to come across and meet the locals, this region invites you to experience a way of life that has not changed in many years.

You’ll love the long sandy beaches, the quiet fishing spots, the coastal walks and slower pace of life this region offers.

Maori tourism operators on the East Coast offer visitors a myriad of activities and intimate experiences.  From fishing to horse treks, to diving and personalised tours, to simply sharing in stories and some kai moana (seafood) over an open fire – being hosted in this region is something truly unique.

The East Coast is renown for being a laid-back, inviting slice of Aotearoa, New Zealand that simply says ‘this is me, experience me as I am’ and be enriched in a way that is hard to explain – and simply needs to be experienced.
